Materials Technology and Research
Understanding materials is key to their appropriate use and design and this has played a significant role in the career development of our key staff. Our specialism of architectural membrane structures has developed
expert knowledge in the field of fabrics and cables, as well as experience with foils, cardboard, composites, and glass, in addition to the more traditional materials of steel, concrete, timber and masonry. We are
keen to carry out research on specialist construction materials, applications and components both independent of and in parallel with design projects.
Information Technology
Computer literacy is paramount in today’s marketplace, and we take full advantage of the technology for correspondence and report writing. CAD is used extensively for precision, but we still acknowledge the
role of pencil and paper, and indeed physical modelling, especially at the early stages of design.
We are currently developing our own in-house formfinding, analysis and patterning software for membrane structures, and make widespread use of spreadsheet software to efficiently manage repetitive tasks and
calculations where appropriate. This extends to developing custom design aids for external clients.
