Design ethos By acknowledging the influences of both parallel and divergent industries, combined with our structural engineering and design experience, we aim to achieve both functional and aesthetic goals through a mix of radical and established solutions. Philosophy Ingenu initially concentrated on design of architectural membrane structures. This still represents the majority of our workload and it is where the core skills of the company continue to prevail. However, we have always appreciated the value of technology transfer and believe this enables us to apply our minds to any design problem. Foundation Membrane structures are not just tents. They are one of the earliest forms of structure which, through the development of high performance materials, has generated a new type of construction. Drawing from sailing and bridge technology tensioned membrane structures now feature in many of the most innovative structures worldwide. Designing these requires a thorough understanding of the materials, complex geometry and engineering criteria involved. Without this knowledge the exposed nature of the structures makes any mistakes very evident. Diversification At Ingenu, we did not wish to limit our scope to solely tension fabric structures. Our specialist knowledge and the requisite attention to detail is also applicable to other fields of design, including cable structures, specialist metalwork assemblies, inflatables, software development, product development.
